What I learn today, prepares me for tomorrow...our curriculum intention

Curriculum Rationale

The outcomes for adults with any form of disability are significantly less than those who don’t. This injustice has formed our rationale of our curriculum offer and the importance of trying to make a difference for the children that attend Barndale.

Five per cent of adults with learning disabilities are in paid employment https://businessdisabilityforum.org.uk/learning-disability-shifting-the-dial-on-employment-3/

Children and young people with a disability are more likely to live in poverty than those without a disability (Emerson, 2012; PHE 2015).

Our curriculum offer has several aims:

  • to develop skills and attitudes for learning
  • to meet pupils where they are at on their own learning journey
  • to ensure pathways are reflective on pupils needs and capabilities
  • to extend the taught curriculum into practical lifeskills (Preperation for Adulthood)
  • to raise aspirations for 'Beyond Barndale' and adulthood
  • to offer accreditations that are purposeful and meaningful

The flyer below details our pathways, offer and how we know it is working for our pupils:
