Preparation for Adulthood & Careers

On entering our P14 class our students will experience a range of opportunities to help them to decide their futures beyond Barndale. We organise visits to a range of different provisions in our area, from Berwick to Newcastle/North Tyneside. There are a huge range of establishments which offer practical, academic and supported internship places. We also have contact with a range of adult social care providers who welcome visits from school, as well as parents.

We would recommend that conversations around next phase changes start when your child is approx 14/15 so that we can help to support and match their interests/aspirations accordingly.

If you have any questions with regards to your childs' next steps please contact Sarah or Faye via admin@barndale.uk. We will endeavour to help in any way we are able.

At Barndale we use a range of accreditation pathways to prepare our young people for adulthood.

Some of our young people take the English, Maths, Digital Skills and Employability NCFE Functional Skills materials and a range of Asdan Short Courses for Science, History, Geography and Citizenship, whilst others take ASDAN Lifeskills Challenges for a more practical approach. We also work towards a Duke of Edinburgh award.

Our careers leaders are Sarah Dickson and Faye Taylor.
